Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks lose Alex Edler for 4-6 weeks, Bo Horvat's comparables The Vancouver Canucks will be without both their top defensemen as they open a homestand on Tuesday as Alex Edler is sidelined for 4-6 weeks after surgery to repair a broken index finger.

If Vancouver could get Horvat for the same deal as Trocheck I would be ecstatic.

Thx Carol...outstanding as per usual.

What are the thoughts on Tallon being a fit here if WD gets the boot?

Philosophical differences were cited in FLA as MNGT-Ownership want a fast skilled team and Tallon wants size and toughness.

Maybe Tallon's size/toughness attitude would bode well for us here in the west...

I'm confused how a potential WD firing would relate to hiring Tallon unless you meant Gallant. If you mean replacing WD with Gallant, I don't see the point, this is a bad team and will continue to be regardless of the coach at this point.

Bringing in Tallon to help Benning would also be pointless IMO considering he is on record of saying he prefers his new situation in Florida where he can focus on scouting and the new GM handles the day to day and paperwork.

"Make no mistake, this is Dale's team," Rowe said. "He built it, he found the players. I'm here to support Dale."

The biggest takeaway from the announcement seems to be that Tallon doesn't have to worry about paperwork as much anymore. That tripped him up in Chicago years ago, ultimately costing him his job when a bevy of restricted free agents didn't get their qualifying offers in time. Unloading contract stuff on Rowe and company seems to be A-OK with Tallon, who would much rather be scouting.

"I wasn't a big fan of doing contracts," Tallon said. "This frees me up to do the things I think I do best. I like going to rinks and freezing my rear end off."

I would still like to see Horvat and Eriksson playing together, for better or worse they will likely be "the go to guys" for the next 6 years.

From day one in Horvat's first camp, it has been nothing but "WD is ruining Horvat's career". Month after month after month.... "He doesn't want him on the team", "He's not giving him enough ice time", "he's giving him too much ice time", "he's not given the right linemates to produce offense".... on and on. This confuses me... Horvat is already looking like he was underestimated by the scouting world and fans... he's only had one NHL coach... what do we really have if WD is so bad for him? The next Crosby if it were not for Willy?

I wonder how Horvat feels about this? He's steady trended upwards each season to the point where he is the scoring leader and in a dominate position for his contract negotiations... oh the oppression!!!!!

Lefty is very calculative. He brought Prock here to draw the attention away from himself. You have to keep an eye on us cagey fishermen... we are full of all kinds tricks... remember the KD distraction noodle? ... that was originally mine....

Nice to see they have plans to bring up Pedan eventral lyrics. I would prefer to see him in the lineup over Larsen or Biega.
Horvat hopefully gets rewarded accordingly. 6x5 would be fair.

Thanks, as always, for the support!

Bottom line for me right now—I think Willie's out of danger for the foreseeable future. For the last three weeks, he has gotten good results out of an undermanned team and for the most part, even when they lose, they play pretty well.

I was shocked to hear about Gallant's firing last night—that Tom Rowe has certainly made himself a big fish in the Panthers pond in a hurry. I'm more interested to see what happens now in Florida than I am in where Gallant will land. He seems like he could be a good candidate for Vegas...
